Why learn about mixed methods?
Mixed methods insights are the only way to gain a comprehensive understanding of your users, your product experience and the business. One method alone can give you one perspective, but it has caveats. By strategically pairing the right methods together, you can get a holistic understanding of the most important questions for your company and be a trusted source for leadership decision-making.
What is this workshop?
In this 2-hour workshop, we will walk through a framework I use regularly with my teams to figure out the mix of methods that will be most impactful for the given research question. This program focuses on how to choose methods spanning UX Research, Data Science, Market Research and other insights disciplines, because at the end of the day, collaboration with other disciplines just gives us more methods to mix! In addition to the framework and concepts, we will go through tangible examples and have group activities designed to give you hands-on experience with research questions.
The objectives:
Identify when to use a mixed methods study design vs a single method
Understand the strategy for how to pick the best set of methods for the research question
Learn a framework for when and how to collaborate across insights disciplines including UX Research, Data Science, Market Research, etc
Develop the research processes for mixed methods studies from planning through impact
Who it this for?
Insights ICs (UX Researchers, Data Scientists, Market Researchers, Behavioral Scientists, etc) and managers of researchers or insights teams who want to master mixed methods!
What to expect?
The workshop has 3 sections, where each section has 20 minutes of a talk to understand the concept, 15 minutes of a group activities (including scenario quizzes and designing research plans) to get hands on practice, and 5 minutes of Q&A to understand the edge cases.
Why mixed methods is valuable and when to use it: an overview of different study designs and when to use each for maximum impact and efficiency
The framework for mixing methods: a framework for how to effectively partner methods together that can be used across insights disciplines (UXR, DS, MR, etc)
Putting it into action: implementing the mixed methods approach into each step of the research process from planning to impact
There will be plenty of examples to bring these concepts to life, especially trying to highlight different types of research questions with different audiences and for different stakeholders.
What you’ll leave with:
Deeper understanding of what rigorous mixed methods insights work really looks like and how it can up-level your impact
A toolkit to design your studies, including when and how to partner with other insights disciplines like Data Science, Market Research, etc
A concrete research plan for deciding when to do a mixed methods study, including how to design and implement it
If this sounds like fun, join us on Friday, March 8th from 9-11am PST / 12-2PM EST / 6-8pm CET! You will be sent the Google Calendar invite with a Google Meet link after registering. See you there :)
